Make It Work!

I have been watching Project Runway since it's first season.

Season 8 is on-going and I have to say this, I am not that impressed.

I cannot help but compare it to season 7, which I watched every single episode of (some even more than once).  For me, the clothes sent to the runway for this season aren't that striking, and for most episodes I find myself pointing at a look: "HEY I CAN TOTALLY GET THAT LOOK FROM THE DEPT STORE".  No joke.

The final four has been revealed after the elimination of April, who I was rooting for after Gretchen lost her steam.  I have to agree with the judges that she's made something like that before, but at least she actually designs!

April
Her clothes are a bit avant-garde which I like.  I would wear some of the clothes she made.

Mondo

But I have to give credit to Mondo, who is obviously going to win this thing.  He has managed to make fun yet classy clothes.

Gretchen

I have been a strong Gretchen supporter since first episode but as time goes by her designs became boring and matronly.  I really thought she was going to dominate this season.  Guess not.

Andy

Andy South isn't consistent.  Sometimes he sends works of art in the runway, and sometimes, not.  But atleast he's consistent with his vision.

And finally, Michael C.  How do I even begin?

Michael Kors, Nina Garcia, and Heidi Klum.  I don't know if you are trying to teach us a lesson about good things happening to people who get thrown under the bus or something, but please, not now.  I really lost my respect for the judges the moment Michael C.  had his first win.

Michael C.

Okay, so his clothes manage to turn out nice, and by nice I mean something wearable but  heyyy I think I already saw that dress about a hundred times.  And need I emphasize? DRESS.  Oh how surprising, he made a dress!

Yes, I am really upset about this.  And I do not want to dig in through all of the episodes, so let us discuss episode 12, the day April got the boot.  The other designers made these:

April

Gretchen

Andy

Mondo

So he made this, which was inspired by the Statue of Liberty (what a shocker!), and said he basicallywanted it to be a show stopper.

GUESS WHO

And Michael Kors said (dramatically):
"You wanted a show stopper, and you got a show stopper."

My jaws dropped.  Did I hear that right?

Michael C. did not know what the material was and Michael K. found it adorable. How sweet~

Compliments from Nina Garcia, Heidi Klum and, to my surprise, even the guest judge season 4 winner Christian Siriano poured in.  It made me sick.

So the dress was okay-looking.  I mean, it's a plain black backless maxi-dress, how can it possibly not look okay?  But it's Project Runway! It's supposed to be a design contest!  I don't know how to make clothes but I bet I can make a dress like that.

And the crazy part is that they called Andy's dress 'safe'.  Uh, so this Michael C. dress is totally out of the box the most creative amazing breathtaking dress Michael K. (yes, I will call you Michael K.) has ever seen. Would you look at that.

I'm still waiting for episode 13, where we will have a peak at the collections the 4 of them have been working on, and the final 3 who would be competing at Fashion Week will be determined.  And if Michael C. goes to Fashion Week, I do not know.  I just do not know.

Season 9 has to be really good to make up for the disappointing season.  I would have put in more Season 7 compliments had Jay not ignored my fan mail. LOL.  But true, I am still bitter.

And Tim Gunn, I still respect you. /k.now back to my paper
